So you’re narrowing down the list of colleges that you’re interested in attending, or at the very least applying to, and finding that it’s harder than it looks. But with application fees up to your eyeballs and college essays up to your clavicles, you know you need to make some decisions. Good news! We have some information about these hot schools that might just help you decide whether to send them an application or not.

Georgetown

  • Georgetown is located in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C.
  • Georgetown’s mascot is Jack the Bulldog.
  • The school was established by John Carroll in 1789.
  • Undergraduate tuition is $51,720.
  • Georgetown University occupies 104 acres of land.
  • Georgetown requires 2-3 brief essays from applicants.

Yale

  • Yale asks students to write some supplemental essays, seven short answer responses and 1-2 additional short essays to be exact.
  • Yale was founded in 1701 and is one of the oldest institutions in the United States.
  • It is attended by about 4,500 undergraduate students and ____ graduate and professional students.
  • In the basement of each college there is a snack bar that sells hangry college students small portions of yummy food into the wee hours of the morning.
  • Yale University is home to fourteen colleges, each with their own ping pong team.

California Institute of Technology

  • Caltech requires one long essay, three short essays, and one short answer from applicants.
  • The Caltech mascot is a beaver.
  • The California Institute of Technology has an annual Pumpkin Drop that takes place at midnight on Halloween, when students drop pumpkins frozen in liquid nitrogen from the top of Millikan Library to see if they’ll emit a glow as they hit the ground and shatter.
  • Each House at Caltech has a fully stocked kitchen. Hangry no more!
  • At 7:00 in the morning, Richard Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” is blasted every day during finals week.
  • The Caltech campus has appeared in many well-known TV shows and movies over the years, including The X-FilesThe West WingLegally BlondeEntourage, and Mission: Impossible (to name a few).
  • The cannon outside Fleming House is actually still in use for rare occasions.
