Lynn University 2024-25 Supplemental Essay Prompt Guide

Lynn University 2024-25 Application Essay Question Explanation

The Requirements: 1 essay of 250 words, 1 essay of 150 words

Supplemental Essay Type(s): Activity, Why

Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (250 words)

In responding to this prompt, your job is to tell admissions something they don’t already know about you. Remember, they’ve already read through your ten activity descriptions, personal statement, and activity resume (if you submitted one). So, when you pick your activity or work experience, make sure it doesn’t appear in other essays you’ve written. Maybe you mentioned being class president in your activity descriptions, but want to take this opportunity to tell admissions about your Leslie Knope-themed campaign (and all the things you accomplished for your peers during your time as president). Perhaps your favorite activity is playing Mahjong with your grandma on the weekends, and you love the opportunity to learn more about her past and your extended family members in China. Choose an activity that matters to you and through which you have grown in tangible ways (getting promoted, nominated as captain, or elected as treasurer) or intangible ways (learning the value of listening, mindfulness, or empathy). Pull your reader into the story using sensory details and other tricks, and your essay will be sure to shine.

Why are you applying to Lynn? (150 words)

The key here is to be precise, but memorable.  The more specific details you can incorporate into your essay, the better. Explore both academic and extracurricular opportunities offered by Lynn. Will you achieve your dream of becoming an animation artist by pursuing a computer animation degree? What research opportunities will you take advantage of, and why is Lynn the best university to support you on your journey to discovering answers? Will joining the Fashion and Retail Association on campus lead to you one day displaying your own clothing designs in Paris (très chic)? Remember, the point is to explain how Lynn’s academic and social opportunities will help you achieve your goals. Show admissions how this university is the bridge between the person you are and the person you hope to become.
