Oklahoma City University 2024-25 Supplemental Essay Guide

Oklahoma City University 2024-25 Application Essay Question Explanations

The Requirements: 2 essays of 150 words each, 1 short answer

Supplemental Essay Type(s): Oddball, Short Answer, Why

When considering their college major, many students have a specific career goal in mind. Tell us about your goals and why you have chosen your specific area of study. Please use 150 words or less.

Admissions wants to know why you have selected the specific area of study within OKC you are pursuing and how it is aligned with your interests and career goals. So, as with all “why” essays, you’ll want to set aside some time for research, either in the form of a campus visit or deep dive on the school website. Even if you already have a great approach, a little fact-checking never hurt anyone. Since you don’t have a ton of words at your disposal, try to narrow your focus down to one or two elements and make a bridge from OKC’s resources to your own goals for the future. Is there a professor in your department whom you admire? Do you hope to apply what you learn in her class to your future career? Is there a program that combines your unique interests that is not offered at any other school in the region? Get specific. Let admissions know what you plan to do with your OKC education in the future.

What does servant leadership mean to you? You can speak to personal leadership experiences or those leaders that have significantly impacted you.  Please answer in 150 words or less.

What does leadership look like to you?  Start by jotting down whatever comes to mind when you read this prompt. Did you immediately think of a prominent activist or leader who has effectively created change in your community? How do they lead? Which of their qualities would you like to emulate? Maybe you thought of a personal leadership experience, in which you organized a peaceful protest. How did it feel to see people come together over a cause dear to your heart? Did you feel you made an impact? You want to write about an observation or an experience here, so we recommend brainstorming a few options for your response so you can choose the most effective one. Regardless of what you pick, make sure to relay what the experience or person meant to you. And as with all college essays, make sure your response always ends up telling them something new about you.

Tell us a fun fact about you! (No word count, but tiny space)

You don’t have a ton of space here, so we recommend coming up with a few ideas that you can communicate in a sentence or two. Maybe you’d be remiss not to mention that you are a hot dog-eating champion or that you participate in the Polar Plunge every year (brrrr!). Jot down a few ideas, then pick your favorite! Make sure the fun fact presents brand new information that you haven’t already covered in your other application essays.
